Free Crochet Pattern: Knock Around Hat

Knock Around Beanie 5702_1024

Knock Around Hat

It seems everywhere I look these days someone is doing a “knit look” crochet pattern. I do knit, but crochet is so much faster and so these patterns are very welcome indeed! Most of the stitching looks like the traditional garter and stockinette stitches which are lovely, but I wanted to try my hand at something that looked a little more textured.

The Knock Around Hat is a basic beanie sized from newborn to adult, that has a texture similar to a knitted embossed or moss stitch and the band is reminiscent of fair isle. I hope you enjoy making it and will share your finished pictures on my Facebook page.

Yes, FPdc in one, dc in next.

  2. CrochetZone

No I don’t have videos at this time.

  3. CrochetZone

    Thank you!

  4. Gail

Is there a video tutorial for this pattern ?

  5. Gail

I’m confused with row 7. Fpdc. Then DC in next. Should I end up with 60 stitches?

  6. CrochetZone

I used Red Heart Soft, you could also use a Caron Simply Soft. You can use other worsted too, but the gauge might be off slightly as many are thicker. As long as you meet gauge your end result should work out fine with many yarns.

  7. Sheila

In the materials it says Light worsted weight yarn. Is that a 3 or a 4.

  8. CrochetZone

That’s because there is no back post double crochet. All the post stitches are front.

  9. Barbara Manuel

There is no instruction when to do the Back Post double crochet. Is that why my hat is curling the opposite direction from the hat in the picture?

I’m sorry you are having trouble Cindy. Row 8 has as many stitches as the previous round as noted in the pattern, therefore, you will do the FPdc around one stitch and then work the dc in the very next stitch. I’m not sure what you mean by the chain part. The dc are worked in the stitches as normal, the FPdc are worked around the the indicated stitch by inserting your hook from front to back, around the back of the stitch you are working on, back to the front and complete the stitch. Hoping this helps.

the part i need help with is: it does not specify where to put the dc on ROW 8: (does it go into the space right next to the fpdc or into the ‘chain’ of the (stitch) or? Round 8: Ch 2, [FPdc, dc], repeat to end, join round.
ROW 9-does it go into the fpdc stitch or chain part or?
Round 9: Ch 2, dc in each FPdc, FPdc in each dc, to end, join round. i usually can figure it out, but i cant right now!
thanks so much for any and all help!
