I work in an office environment where we exchange small gifts for Christmas. Most of my co-workers are women so this year I will be making lots of these Knit Look Ribbed Cowls.
This crochet pattern works up so fast in a bulky weight yarn – under an hour – and I love the way the vertical ribs look. The ribs are very easy to make by working in “third” loop. If you need a little help figuring out where the third loop is, Moogly has an excellent tutorial and you can click HERE to see it. This cowl is designed to be a little wider at the bottom part so that it will lay nicely on the shoulders rather than bunch up like some squared off varieties. For a little extra flair I added the yarn tie but of course, that is optional.

Crochet Tips: click on the tip below for a tutorial
• Fastening off neatly
• Weaving in ends
• Working in the third loop
Row 1: Ch 13, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each remaining st. (12 sts here and through-out)
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, working in 3rd loop only, dc in first 3 sts, hdc in remaining sts to end.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, working in both loops, hdc in each st to end.
Repeat Rows 2 & 3, 16 times
Last Row: Repeat Row 2
With right sides together, sl st short ends together to form the cowl. Fasten off.
Border: working in each edge at the top and bottom, sl st loosely around, join. Fasten off.
Cut a length of yarn, weave through the ribs about 2” from the bottom and tie into a bow.
